The "Répertoire International d'Iconographie Musicale" (RIdIM) is an international network for the cataloging and indexing of music and dance representations in the field of fine arts and crafts. Within this framework, the project goal of the individual country working groups is the examination of all works of art that are accessible in the respective national territory and the recording and indexing of music iconographic relevant objects.
The German RIdIM working group was established in 1979 as a subsection within the German RISM working group and is located at the Munich RISM working group at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
Objects from larger museums, collections and libraries in Germany are cataloged. Currently, about 20,500 objects are cataloged in "RIdIM Germany: Database on Music and Dance in the Arts" at the Munich RIdIM Working Group. Accompanying the cataloging process, the Munich RIdIM Working Group documents the cataloged objects with image reproductions.
The image documentation is made available - in cooperation with the museums and libraries as image rights holders or with the copyright holders (in the case of modern art) - over time as an enrichment of the database.
