The Electronic Zeitschriftendatenbank (EZB) is a service for the effective use of scientific full-text journals on the Internet.

The FID Musicology provides the “Handwörterbuch der musikalischen Terminologie” (HmT) incl. full-text search in the beta version online and has also integrated this data source into the ViFaMusik search. All articles of the six volumes of the HmT published by Steiner-Verlag Stuttgart have been scanned, processed with OCR and provided with a special presentation format. This allows the user not only to find the searched terms simultaneously in all articles of the HmT and to browse comfortably back and forth within the articles, but it also recognizes frequently mentioned places, persons and even nouns in the articles, according to which the user can additionally filter the search. The search terms found are highlighted in color. Every single page of the HmT has a persistent link and is thus scientifically citable..
But not only finding and filtering in the full-text is possible. In the full view, all independent music-theoretical publications before 1900 recognized in the text are also displayed in the left column. If these are freely available online as digital copies, the user is forwarded to these digital copies via a stable link.
The "Handwörterbuch der musikalischen Terminologie" was founded in 1972 by Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht on behalf of the „Akademie der Wissenschaften“ und der „Literatur Mainz“ and continued by Albrecht Riethmüller. Under the editorship of Markus Bandur, a total of six volumes were published by Steiner-Verlag Stuttgart. This reference work, which is of central importance for musicology, is dedicated to the origin and meaning of musical terms and their historical character. Until now, the HmT was published as a loose-leaf collection and thus only usable in library reading rooms.
Via a new Digital Collection of the Munich DigitiZation Center (MDZ), HmT articles can be downloaded in PDF format for private and scientific use and can also be printed out.
